August 4th to 25th, 2025
4-Week Course + Final Grad Show
Mondays, 7:00-10:00pm
August 4th to August 25th, 2025
Get silly in this introductory clowning course! Clowning is a centuries-old artform, and it's having a major resurgence right now! It's not just for the circus and birthday parties--clowning acts are popping up at major fringe and comedy festivals all over the world. Clowning has become a major part of the comedy avant-garde, so this is your chance to get really good at it before it hits the mainstream. Over the course of four weeks you will develop your act to perform at the final showcase.
Clowning is beneficial for all types of performance! Here are just some of the ways it can amplify your existing skills:
- Physical comedy: Clowning teaches you how to use your body for comedic effect, which can be applied to other forms of physical comedy, like slapstick or mime.
- Audience connection: Clowns are masters at connecting with their audience, which is essential for any performer. They know how to read the room and adjust their act accordingly.
- Improvisation: Clowning often involves improvising, which can help performers think on their feet and respond to unexpected situations.
- Emotional expression: Clowns are known for their exaggerated emotions, which can help performers tap into their own emotional range and express themselves more authentically.
- Creativity and playfulness: Clowning encourages creativity and playfulness, which can help performers approach their craft with a fresh perspective and come up with innovative ideas.
Many performers, like actors, dancers, and musicians, can benefit from incorporating clowning techniques into their practice. It's all about experimenting with new ways to connect with your audience and express yourself!
