Intro to Musical Improv
Prerequisite: Level Two Improv or Higher
8-Week Course + Final Grad Show
Mondays 7:00-10:00PM
February 21 – April 11, 2022
Grad Show: Sat Apr 16th at 4:00PM
Put your thoughts and emotions into song and take your improv scenes to the next level. Through exercises in group dynamic, support, and movement, you will learn how to turn every song you improvise into a full-blown musical number. And the best part is, you don’t need to be a professional singer to bust out a killer song onstage. You and your classmates will work on building solid relationship-based scenes, inspired and supported by musical underscoring, while understanding and utilizing the accompanist as a third scene partner. Through singing, you’ll be given an overview of different song structures and specifically gain the tools to write a meaningful four measure chorus, a song tag line, and even unique verses. Through light choreography we will work together as a group mind to create simple and coordinated rhythmic movements that support the scene and the characters you’ve created.
This is an eight-session class running from Monday, February 21 – Monday, April 11, 2022 (7:00-10:00PM). The instructors are Leslie Collins and Jeff Poteat.
