Workshop Description: Looking for a way to use your clever wit onstage? Discover the secrets behind using creative wordplay in comedy performance. In this workshop, you’ll explore the roles of wordplay in comedy, master different methods for creating wordplay, and practice using wordplay in different styles of comedy. All types of comedians are welcome and will come away with ideas to bring to an audience.
About the Instructor: Dane Robertson is an avid wordplay enthusiast and improv instructor at DCC. With an English teacher as a mother, he knew he had to find a way to make language more fun. Dane started punning as a hobby in 2017 as he got into short form improv. Then, he sharpened his skills and competed in the 2019 O’Henry Pun-Off World Championships where he performed pun routines about aging and vision. These days, his training serves him well by either slinging wacky one-liners in a short form show or embarrassing himself in group chats.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: Due to the increasing COVID-19 cases, we have decided that all students and staff are required to wear a mask while in our Training Center, effective immediately. Masks must be worn during any DCC class or workshop at all times, whether you are vaccinated or not. This pertains to all Students, Student Advocates, and Instructors. This means every single person in class at tour theater must be wearing a mask at all times. Anyone who is unwilling to follow this will be asked to leave the theater immediately.
